Environments

A workspace has two environments: a sandbox for building and testing, and a live environment for real money. They are fully separate. Nothing you do in one shows up in the other.

Know which environment you are in

While you work in a sandbox, a Sandbox mode banner runs across the top of the dashboard with the line "You're testing in a sandbox. Nothing here moves real money." Choose What's a sandbox? in the banner for a short explainer.

In the live environment there is no banner. In either environment, the workspace menu at the top of the sidebar shows a Sandbox or Live badge next to the workspace name.

Switch environments

To switch between live and sandbox:

Open the workspace menu

Select the workspace name, with its Sandbox or Live badge, at the top of the sidebar.

Choose Environments

The Environments submenu lists this workspace's environments. The one you are in is checked.

Pick an environment

The dashboard reloads the page you were on, in the environment you picked.

From a sandbox you can also choose Switch to live in the banner once your workspace is live.

What each environment keeps to itself

Each environment has its own:

  • API keys. A sandbox key only works in the sandbox, and a live key only works in live.
  • Webhook endpoints, each with its own signing secret.
  • Deposit addresses, deposits, settlements and routings.
  • Vaults, balances, payouts and transfers.
  • Routing policies and treasuries.
  • Webhook events and delivery history.
  • Simulations (sandbox only).

What the workspace shares

These belong to the workspace and apply to both environments:

  • The team: members, invitations and roles. A member has the same role in both environments, but a role allows more in the sandbox than in live. See Team and roles.
  • Workspace settings, billing and the audit log.
  • Your own account: profile, password, authenticator app and sessions.

Manage environments

To see your environments, open the workspace menu and choose Environments → Manage environments, or go to Settings → Environments. The page lists the live environment and your sandbox, with the one you are in marked Current.

Until your workspace is live, the live row reads "Not live yet. Stridge creates the live environment when it takes this workspace live."

Rename a sandbox

Owners and developers can rename a sandbox.

  1. On Settings → Environments, open Environment actions (the ⋯ button) on the sandbox row.
  2. Choose Rename.
  3. Enter a new name of up to 64 characters and choose Rename.

The sandbox's handle and URL don't change, so links and API keys keep working. The name Production is kept for the live environment.

Reset a sandbox

A reset empties the sandbox and keeps its keys and webhook endpoints. See Reset a sandbox.

Using the API

The API uses one base URL, https://api.stridge.com, for both environments. The API key decides which environment a request reaches: an sk_sbx_ key reaches the sandbox, and an sk_live_ key reaches live. For the details, see Environments in the API reference.
